Welcome from your Chapter President – Desmond Richelsen
We are beginning the 2016–17 season for the Washington DC chapter of ASPE. The chapter board is looking forward to a great year. We have some new faces, some familiar faces, and some faces that have decided to return to the board after many years away. I am very excited to fulfill the role of president on this board. I want to thank each and every one of our board members. I would also like to thank all of our past board members over the years. To serve on the board is a large commitment of time and effort. I didn’t want it to go un noticed or under appreciated. The DC Chapter members are the most important piece in our success. Without our members there would be no chapter or a board. I speak for the entire board, when I say we truly do appreciate you. Without your great ideas, constant communication, and valued participation in chapter activities, this chapter would not be what it is. I truly believe that the Washington DC chapter is one of the best chapters of any engineering society organization.
Now a little about me for those of you that don't know me. You might say that I've been well-traveled in my career? No jokes please. I started my career as a plumbing draftsman for Girard Engineering back in 1998. Over my 18-year career I have been many places and worked with many of you. Although I worked for many firms, I never took a step back, I always advanced. A little over two years ago I accepted a position as a manufacture’s sales engineer for Grundfos. I loved it, and I wanted more. So, almost a year ago I decided to bite the bullet and go direct as I accepted a position at AMES Inc. I love what I am doing more and more every day. I do however miss the design side sometimes. I believe ASPE is great for me because I still get to dabble in design engineering while living the dream. I’ve been dealt life’s Royal Flush, I married my soulmate, I have two beautiful girls, I have a relationship with God, and I love what I do. I am so very blessed!
